Introduction
Granada doesn't have an international airport so if you want to fly to Granada you will have to first fly to Madrid (45 minutes) or Barcelona (1 hour) If you take this option you should get your travel agent to book the connecting flight. There are not many flights to Granada, so depending on when you arrive it may be advisable to get a bus or train rather than waiting in Madrid.  The nearest international airport is Malaga (see below) the best way to get from Malaga to Granada is by bus.

Flying to Malaga.

Malaga is the nearest international airport to Granada. If you are flying from within Europe there are a lot of flights to Malaga because there is a high influx of tourists who are going to the Costa del Sol. There are also many more cheap charter flights to Malaga than most other Spanish destinations.

To get from Malaga to Granada you will have to get a bus. First you get a bus from the airport to Malaga bus station. There is a bus every hour from 7am until 9pm. (except 8pm) The price is 1165 pesetas. ($8) It takes 1 and a half hours. Granada bus station has been moved to just outside of town so you will have to get a taxi or a bus into the centre.

The problem with flying to Malaga is that if you plane is late it is difficult to get to Granada after 9pm in which case you will have to get a hotel in Malaga or club together with 4 people and get a taxi although this is very expensive.

Train
The train station is fairly central and is in  Avenida de Andaluces off Avenida de la constitución. The phone number is  958 27 12 72.  Granada is not on a high speed line.
