Adverbials used with the simple past
When we make a sentence in the
simple past
we often use an adverbial
to say when the event happened:
| Sentence | Adverbial |
| I went to Madrid |
yesterday. |
| If we want to say how much time has passed since the event happened we use AGO |
2
days ago |
| We can say how long the event lasted with FOR | for
2 weeks for 5 months |
Notes:
The adverbials often go at the end of the sentence but not always.
Eg.
Two weeks ago, I went to the cinema
I went to the cinema two weeks ago
