Intensive Course Worthing (Age 16+)
You can join this
course if you can ask and answer simple questions in the present and
past tenses and have a vocabulary of about 250 words. New students join
on any Monday (Tuesday after a Public Holiday) and take a written and
listening test so that you can be allocated to a suitable level. There
is a minimum of five level.
- Elementary
- Lower Intermediate
- Intermediate
- Higher Intermediate
- Advanced
Your course will consist of 30 lessons
of 45 minutes each per week (22.5 hours per week). You can stay for
any period from two weeks to one year. The average number of students
in a class is 8 to 10, with a maximum of 12. The Intensive Course covers:
- Coursebook work: grammar, listening, reading, writing, pair
work, problem-solving tasks and vocabulary exercises.
- Oral work: pair work, group discussions, debates role-play,
pronunciation, syllable stress, sentence stress and intonation.
- The class teacher and the Director of Studies will monitor your
progress and give assistance on individual learning problems.
You can advance to higher levels as your standards
improve and as with all our courses you will receive an end-of-course
certificate for the level you attain. If you wish to go on to a British
University or College of Higher or Further Education, we can help you
improve your English to the required IELTS or TOEFL level for entry
and advise you on the choice of where and what to study.
Cambridge Examination Courses Worthing (Age
16+)
We prepare students for four levels of the University of Cambridge
English Language Examinations:
- Preliminary English Test
- First Certificate
- Advanced English Certificate
- Proficiency
As with the Intensive Course there are 30 lessons of 45 minutes each
per week (22.5 hours) and the average class size is 8-10 with a maximum
of 12. The course lasts 11 weeks, with the examination in the 12th week,
and begins in March and September each year.
Beginners' Special Course Worthing (Age
16+)
Students who are beginners in English and cannot meet the minimum qualification
to join the Intensive Course, as described above should enrol on the
Special Beginnersą Course. This is a four week course and can start
on any Monday (Aug-May). The student receives four weeks of one-to-one
teaching, 15 hours per week.
IELTS Special preparation course (Aged
16+)
The Special IELTS preparation course is designed for students preparing
for entry to a British university or college in the autumn. It is available
only to students of intermediate level and above, as determined by the
Swandean entry test, or to those holding an existing IELTS grade 5.0
or more overall, for which a photocopy of the certificate is required.
The course focuses on:
- Academic reading and writing skills with some remedial grammar work
as appropriate.
- Academic listening skills, such as note-taking, following lectures
by recognising signpost words and seeing beyond the surface meaning.
- Speaking skills, including giving opinions and reasons, expanding
on a subject, comparing and contrasting, making accurate questions,
showing interest and talking about future plans.
There will be a test at the end of each week and a full mock examination
in the final week of the course. The minimum number of enrolments required
for each course is six.
At other times of the year, candidates for IELTS may take the Intensive
course and will receive assistance in preparing for the examination
without extra charge, so long as they are of intermediate level or above.
Summer Vacation Courses Worthing (Age 16+)
From mid June to late August, we offer half day courses, either morning
or afternoon, so that you can improve your English and take a summer
holiday in one of our seaside centres at the same time. There are 20
lessons of 40 minutes each week (15 hours including breaks). You can
begin your course on any Monday and enrol for between 2 and 9 weeks.
We organise a wide variety of sports and cultural activities which you
can join, if you wish, on a "pay-as-you-go" basis.
Young Learners Summer Vacation Course Worthing (Age
12 to 16)
Also between mid June and late August, but in Worthing only, we run
half-day courses of 20 lessons of 40 minutes each per week (15 hours
including breaks) for juniors aged 12 to 16. Here, the varied leisure
activities programme, including excursions, sports, cultural visits
and parties, is included in the price and closely supervised by representatives
of the School.
Private Lessons:
We offer one-to-one teaching with qualified teachers, either as a course
on its own or to supplement one of the above courses.
